La Ruta Maya V (Uxmal)

One of the greatest sites in the Yucatán península, Uxmal has excellent details in its facades, stairways and palaces, you can stay there for hours just thinking how could be life there some 1,000 years before. By far -in my opinion- a site more complex and beautiful than Chichén Itzá.

La Ruta Maya IV (Edzná)

Edzná is a Maya site located in the Puuc zone, about 55km East from the city of Campeche, many Guatemalan refugees worked at this place helping to restore the ancient esplendor of the city. We were there almost alone, the feeling when you are in a site like this without crowds of tourist is very beautiful and peaceful, you can take your time to think about these civilizations without worries.

La Ruta Maya III (Campeche)

The walled city of Campeche, about 5 hours by car from Palenque, it's a beautiful colonial city at the shores of the Golfo de México, modern but at the same time very quiet, this city with colorful buildings, massive walls and cobblestone streets delivers a very romantic atmosphere.

La Ruta Maya II (Palenque)

We were the first in line to enter the site at 8AM, with us a hundred or so handicrafters who sell their stuff inside Palenque rushed in to take the best location. With years these sites change a little, more excavations give new light to old earth covered buildings, also new restrictions to access the temples help to preserve them but also keep visitors away from impressive vistas from the top of the pyramids. Palenque still is one of my favorites.

La Ruta Maya I (Guate+Chetumal+Becan)

Suddenly I decided to take my teenagers and jump to a 4,000km ride across Guatemala, Belice and the Yucatán Península. These are some snapshots of the first and a half day. A view of Río Dulce in Guatemala, some rocky formations besides the road through Petén, The Chetumal malecón and the next day on our way East to Palenque, we did a stop at the site of Becan.
