Gourmet or Not Gourmet?

The time i spend jogging is at the same time for thinking, dreaming, imagining. While I am running usually everything appears more clearly or from a different stage. Yesterday I was thinking that when you achieve certain knowledge about preparing food or a drink with gourmet characteristics and then you want to excel it and to standardize all the procedures to make it through a production line, you maybe are missing something.

From my point of view no matter how delicious be your recipe it stops of being "real gourmet" if you control to perfection all the involved steps, because then it turns into a mass product. I start from the assumption that gourmet is something ideally refined in preparation and presentation with a great human touch, for the same reason not always will taste the same, similar, but not exactly the same, and that is the big difference, close to perfection or even perfect but not always.

Beautiful Anniversary Afternoon

Yesterday my wife and I took our afternoon off to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary. In Guatemala City was raining like the Deluge, but in Antigua the weather was cloudy with a very light drizzle. We went to Café Mediterráneo, where there was a delicious pasta, then we visited an exhibition, strolled down the streets, went to a couple of coffeehouses, watched people in the park, the evening was beautiful and the place was perfect. Love you T. thanx to be my partner :)

High Confidence

I was eight years old when my mom gave me a Philips cassette tape recorder, this was a gift that opened my mind in a multiple ways of creativity. This song from Tijuana Brass was also in one of the cassettes she gave to me. Although I am a single child from a single mother she never told me a "no" for whatever I would like to do. When I got 12 I wanted a motorcycle that she was not sure to buy for me. When I crashed in a friend's motorbike and I was very injured I feared it would change my expectations. Three weeks later my mum bought me my brand new Honda SL70 and she told me: "I prefer you crash in your own bike that in someone else's". Here my mom with my daughter.

Green Country

In this time of the year the coffee trees begin to flourish thanks to the daily rains. Their white little flowers give pass to the tiny green fruits that will mature and will turn in cherries. More than 3,000 beneficios located in or near the coffee farms around the country assure fast and properly process to the cropped cherries, helping Guatemala delivering one of the most requested coffees in the world. The cycle continues.

Chance of Peace?

A couple of years ago i was in a museum of weapons, maybe i am a little bit naive but i couldn't believe what i saw; thousands of weapons since the human race couldn't barely stand straight up to nowadays starwars. What hope do we have? None i think.

The Way We Drink Coffee

We (in Guatemala) need to drink coffee with company, here you won't see people stand up in a bar asking for a coffee and leaving, we have to sit down, to take our time and to gather with other friends to chat about the weather, politicians, football or buzzing around about whatever. Here coffee houses open late and close early, they are places for reunion, to relax, to share.

Drunk Guys

I was browsing around coffee sites when i found this Sweetmarias blog with a undoubtable pic took at some Antigua Guatemala street. These two guys completely drunk are (sadly) a typical view in my country, and when you live here and know very well your place, a pic like that don't need a tag to know where exactly was shot. This behavior is in our blood, what else can we do?

Mujer

y me quieres, y me tienes miedo, y me abrazas
y te entregas a mí

A Trip to Cobán, Part 4 (Faith)

Inhabitants of Cobán have strong beliefs in God. In every village you can find several Christian churches, big and small, in them people mix their ancient maya rites with the catholic ones imposed by Spaniards since the Conquista. When you get in these places you feel a special peaceful and mystical feelings.
